Massage Therapies
There are many varieties of massage therapies on the market. Below are a few of the most common techniques with a brief description on each giving a basic insight into the techniques commonly offered.
Please feel free to send this page to anyone you feel may benefit from it.

Reflexology

Reflexology is an unobtrusive, holistic art/science, which principally works by applying pressure to various reflex areas mapped out on the hands and feet.

Reflexology is a scientifically proved way to relax, de-stress, boost the immune system, relieve tension and assist the body to heal itself, in an unobtrusive, natural holistic way. It addresses the whole body - organs, glands and nervous system and their many inter-related functions.

The therapy has been practiced for over 5 thousand years. It has been practiced around the world and essentially is based on the Chinese theory that the body is reflex along the 10 medians or channels or zones of the body and the Greek/Roman theories on tissue manipulation to ease pain and tension and induce a sense of well being. Researched and developed in the western world by Dr’s, G.P’s, Neurologists and Physiotherapists. The organs, body systems etc are connected within these channels through the nervous system and thus applying pressure along these zones, decongesting the energy pathways and thus allowing the body to homeostatically rebalance and heal itself. Treatments will stimulate a reaction in the body, which can vary, being experienced as energizing or stimulating, relaxing or sedating or no reaction.

Maternity Reflexology

Massage

Massage very similar to reflexology in the way it addresses stress and tension reduction through breaking down congestion in the muscle tissue, but unlike the reflexology it only treats specific areas, whereas reflexology treats the whole body through the hands or feet. Massage is used more for relaxation, de-stressing and reducing tension although some techniques can be used for treatment (muscle spasms & water retention etc).

Swedish massage

Swedish massage is an unobtrusive, holistic art/science, which principally works by applying deep tissue massage in various techniques to relieve tension, de-stress, encourage waste removal, encourage cell renewal, tone muscles, give a sense of well being and relaxation.

Devised in Sweden, the therapy has been practiced for over a century it is essentially based on the Chinese, Egyptian, Roman and Greek massage techniques combined with aspects of sports physiotherapy, this form of massage is a manipulation of the soft tissue of the body for the therapeutic purposes, decongesting the energy pathways and thus allowing the body to homeostatically rebalance and heal itself.
